Can any of you give me some tips on how to weave cards? Whenever I try to weave cards, they don't seem to go together and ruin the sides of the cards! I need to weave for tricks such as triumph.

Coincidentally, I just discovered that I can do this . It's murder on my fingers now...they ache like h*** .

I think the trick is several things. I don't know if these are 'correct', but they work for me.

a) DON'T hold the cards in a tight grip. This will just break the corners. The grip should be loose enough that you can see gaps in the packet if you look at the edge (that is, if it's not new).

b) Once you have a couple of cards woven by sawing them, tilt the packets slightly towards each other on the side that they're woven - only very slightly though! This lets the weave 'spread' through the packet.

c) You do have to use the pinkies to support the packets and provide some of the push (at least, I think so ).

d) New cards, or at least non-dog-eared cards are better than that old pack you found under your desk.

Lastly, just keep trying. One day, you'll be playing with a pack of cards and you'll discover you can do a perfect faro!

I'd highly recommend Ian Kendall's B***ard Hard Moves Made Easy which can be found here. Ian teaches the Faro shuffle (weaving) and does so expertly. There's a review in the Reviews section here. Look it up and you'll find some more details. I hope that helps,

The teaching is excellent. For example, I spent an entire day trying to do a perfect faro using Expert Card Technique as the source material to no avail. Once I had watched Ian's tutorial a couple of times I was doing perfect faros within the hour. He is very thorough and highlights the important aspects of each move. And for £12 you can't go wrong.

Allen Ackerman also has a brilliant DVD on the Faro Shuffle i think it is volume 6 of the "Advanced Card Magic Series" check out magicshop.uk to be sure. I was the same as Goldfish when it came to using Expert Card Technique I could do it nearly perfect but quite after watching Ackerman I hit it probably 85% of the time but that is because i haven't practiced it that much recently. just goes to show that practice will make perfect.
