I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab for most of my fiddling about with audio. It doesn't have as many options as Audacity, but it's very easy to use.
The new version 17 costs about £30, but version 1 can be picked up at Play.com for £8. Version 1 is the one I've got and it's served me well for many years. It's certainly well worth £8.
One drawback with Audio Cleaning Lab (or at least with version 1!) is that, although it's perfectly happy to import MP3 files, it won't export your work as an MP3 unless you pay for a separate add-on. It will export as WAV, which you can always run through something else to convert to MP3. It will also burn your work directly to CD.
