Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

And Bruce is just trying to help you Danny so don't be annoyed. You have obviously put in a lot of hard work and effort, but as can be seen by Bruce's post, not in the right areas.

Sorry I did not mean to come across as annoyed, more so grateful. I was acknowledging my mistakes, agreeing with Bruce and basically trying to say "What done is done, probably a common mistake for a first try, I'll try and fix, and next time I know better" :)

I've taken everything in best of heart ;)[/quote]

Hi,
Reminds me of this site: http://www.marktownsendmagic.co.uk/
Which can only be a good thing!

There's no E in "wondrous".

There are a lot of spelling mistakes and/or typos in your postings, so I'd recommend hiring a good proofreader for a final check just before you go live.

For overall good advice on website design, I can recommend the checklists on the Web Pages That Suck website. The major rules are:
- Know what people come to your site for, and give it to them.
- Make sure they can use the site (especially navigate around it) as easily as possible.
You seem to be getting both of these right! For a feeling of encouragement, have a look at some of the featured Web Pages That Suck and realise how much better yours is.

The logo and background are very good and atmospheric, and the information, being restricted to the central area, fits even on an 800x600 screen resolution (I checked).

The paragraphs are nice and short, which is important for on-screen reading. Sans-serif fonts are more readable on screen, but Century Gothic isn't a Windows core font, so most computers won't have it installed. It's better to stick to the core fonts. If you don't want Arial, try Verdana or Trebuchet.

A few things I noticed (not sure if they've been mentioned, yet).

1 - While I like the overall look and feel of the site, none of the visual elements, thus far, say "magician" to me. The background style looks nice, and I don't necessarily think you should drop it, but you need more visual content that conveys what you are. This can easily be remedied with images in place of the sample images - so this can be completely eliminated once you get real pics in there.

2 - Your "freak of nature" quote - this shouldn't be the first quote about you. As sincere as it might be, it sounds like something a teenager would say, not a satisfied client. Having testimonials is a good thing (and you can have a few like those in there), but lead with something that has more sophistication to it.

3 - I don't like your placement of the facebook like button. It's buried beneath the introductory text, and it looks like it was slapped in as a last thought. If you don't want it to be obtrusive to the design, there are ways to keep it away from the main content, while still being easily identifiable and accessed at any point (one possibility would be a jQuery style slideout nav on the top or side of the site). It's definitely a great idea to have this, but I just think the placement is wrong.

4 - Make your email address an active link. Don't force your clients to copy/paste your email. A direct link is always the best option.
