Looking for another DVD

Postby CArlight1958 » Jun 6th, '11, 14:40

Hello everyone, I wonder if anyone could give me some advice.

I've just purchased the 4 DVD set. "Royal Road To Card Magic"
It's fantastic, & I'm moving along leaps, & bounds with it.

I'm new to all of this, & although I am a bit of a novice.
I do learn very quickly.
I think many years of being a finger style guitarist have put me in good stead.

Could anyone recomend more good quality tutorial DVD's like this one.

Thankyou

Carl...

Depends on where you want to go with what you do. I moved onto Weapons of a CardShark 1 + 2 because I was interested in gambling/cheating etc. Darwin Ortiz has some things along these lines as well.

I think that the Bill Malone set/s would be good for you. if you want just Card stuff, the Malone meet's Marlo set is supposed to be pretty good. (I haven't seen any mind :P )

However, if you want Cards/Coins/Sponge Balls/ All types, then you can't go wrong with 'On the Loose' . Volumes 1 + 2 are probably the best.

Good Luck!

I'm going to give you great advice but feel free to ignore it. Put down the DVD and pick up, in book form Mark Wilson Course in Magic.

No need to present any arguments as to why a dvd and not a book, I've heard them all and they are all valid, reasonable arguments. Think on this.

It is hard to get creative and/original when using a DVD. I can pick up very quickly where somebody has learned what from because the DVD's are usually so good we tend to mimick what we see from them. The routine, the mannirisms and it just becomes copying. When having to lift the routine from the page, well you have no choice but to make it your own. And making it your own is the backbone of a good performance.

Sure go and learn the technical aspects from a dvd, in many cases learning the Gary Kurtz Longnitudinal Palm is going to be much easier learning from a DVD rather than a book. But once you learn the move put the DVD away and learn to perform.

As far as the Mark Wilson Course goes. Well it has a little bit of everything so you can play around, skip chapters, learn what you like and not get 'stuck' on one form of magic (ie cards). Learn other forms and become more well rounded, learn other forms and you will just get more out of magic even if you just stick with cards, it is good to have a working knowledge of how magic works in general. And Mark Wilson is so easy to learn from and so varied, it only makes sense.

But once you learn the move put the DVD away and learn to perform.

The only think I would add is:
But once you learn the move put the DVD away and learn to perform, by performing as much as you can, to as many people as you can, in as many environmants as you can.
If you do not do this, all you have done is "learned a magical technique", not "learned to be a magician".
Good fortune.
