I would like to ask one simple question, am I the only one who suffers from the fact that if my hands are not the right heat then I can't palm, manipulate of anything else ? if my hands are to warm, and smooth I can't handle cards, yet if there to cold I can pass ! WTF ?

try a little hand cream when your hands are dry. Norwegian intensive care hand cream is good it comes in a small tube, you only need a little and do not need to keep reapplying it.

I know this may not come across the right way, but, if you do a sleight or move about 10,000 times, you will be able to do the sleight/move (no matter what condition your hands are in) perfectly every time.

nutragena.( sp) is the hand cream mentioned above.. but thats not going to make your hands hot or cold. Just soft, and slippery.

I feel that Gary's given you the best advice.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I have to ask, is it your hands ?
or are the cards at the wrong temperature?

Perhaps we could all try a few experiments with some old card decks.

Put one pack in the fridge for a few mins, keep one at room temperature and place one pack on a warm radiator. Then lets see which handles the best.

Something suggested to me on another forum, which works really well - you can get a small bottle of glycerine from the baking section of your favourite supermarket. A tiny drop goes a long way.

I have this problem too.In the cold I cannot palm cards whatsoever.I palm cards beautifully with nice moist hands. The sweatier the better :D.There are other sleights that I can't do like a riffle pass and Glide

I choose not to do routines that use these sleights in cold conditions.I often have to moisten my fingers during tricks a few times.Ever perform outdoors in the middle of the winter???Bloody nightmare.

Having said that there are certain sleights that don't work too well for me with excessively sweaty hands either.I guess it's all down to improvising. One thing that helps is knowing your stuff inside out and outside in.

Before I do a gig I often moisturise my hands about an hour before the performance.Sometimes I throw a tiny bit of talcum powder on them too after moisturising.I don't know what to say but this works for me.

I have removed my reply because I read your initial post wrong. I read it as you got dry hands and you are actually saying the opposite. If you used this cream it would make the situation worse for you. Sorry for not reading it correctly and thanks for correcting me.

I can't agree to that.

You practice. Practice makes perfect, then you mess up one day and you go home and practice some more. I will say, old cards suck. Old cards get thick and gross with dirt/grease etc.. I don't like them and they are hard to handle. I hate plastic coated 50 cent cards. However, if a little kid hands me a pack you can be sure I can do everything I normally do except for nice fans and spreads. I can DL, I can pass if needed, but who needs it when there are all the other moves that accomplish the same thing?

Practice. Do the cold, warm, hot experiment with cards and your hands. Hey, even get some lotion and make your hands greasy and weird and try that. Do every trick upside down, laying down, sideways, greasy, dry, bleeding...anything. Every time you try something you might just find something new you like, or find out a new way you can perform the effect efficiently.
