The Art of Tommy Cooper is on iPlayer. I think this has been on before, but it's well worth a look and is available on iPlayer until next Saturday.

Horrible Histories with Stephen Fry

Sunday 19 June
6:00pm - 6:30pm
BBC1

1/6, series 1
Ever tried explaining the Restoration to a seven-year-old? Just ask if they remember the "King Who Liked Partying" rap from Horrible Histories. When they say yes, you tell them it was when that one, Charles II, came to the throne, and they'll nod knowingly. Almost all the history under-tens know comes from CBBC's sketch show, brilliantly adapted from Terry Deary's books. Now BBC1 has recut some of the best sketches and added links by Stephen Fry, which bring a dash of QI. Highlights of the fi rst episode include the heavy-metal Vikings and Oliver Cromwell - as much fun as stinging-nettle underpants.

It's got Stephen Fry in it. What's not to like?

Will be checking out Horrible Histories for sure. Didn't grow up with it, so it's about time I learn what all the fuss is about! :)

The prime-time version of Horrible Histories came about because the BBC realised an awful lot of adults enjoy the show. It's something of a swizz -- all the sketches are old ones from the kids' version, just cobbled together with Stephen Fry as a more adult presenter instead of the puppet rat.

I'm feeling more than sated with Mr Fry at the moment, so haven't had any desire to watch this version. I'll stick with the CBBC afternoon showings.

After you're all done regressing to a childhood state of mind, try something rather more sophisticated:

Robbie: I see what you mean. However, for first exposure to Horrible Histories, I did find it enjoyable. Will have to check out the CBBC episodes!
