Greetings and Salutations

Postby Grant Horton » Jun 16th, '11, 15:52

Hello and greetings to you all, I've been lurking for a moment and actually just stumbled upon your forum my accident. I've been looking over a few of the posts and it seems to be a fairly intelligent place.

I cannot stand shorthand and ignorant posts, it annoys me and doesn't seem to fit with the persona of what any magician "should be" in my eyes. That's just my opinion. It seems to be that long has the art of magic been seen from afar as mystical and intriguing, and it IS I discovered, once I actually delved beneath the surface. I enjoy meeting other magicians who seem to be of the same caliber. That is to say, that they can hold an intelligent conversation without saying: "yur, u, u2, dat, hella, holla, phat, get'r" and so on. Now, just because I will try my best not to post ignorant topics when possible it never means I won't spout out an incredibly random and maybe off topic though. So try to stay with me.

I've actually been an active member of MagicHat, under the name bringdownthesystem if anyone cares to research that or do the internet detective thing. I had a good experience there until the site started to slow. Now it's hard to get anyone over there, but they originally helped me get started in the real, with magic. I have been a member over at the Cafe for awhile as well, not as active there, but I like the environment better than at the "Hat" since it's a more mature and adult feeling. I've stumbled over this way and would like to see where it goes.

As far as magic goes, I've been "doing" magic since I was young I suppose. I'm 19 now, and I've been "serious" into the art since when I was around age thirteen. I was interested off and on from around eight years old and up, just like many children that age I believe. I always wanted to be a secret agent when I got older, and I think magic was the next best thing to me. It's secretive, elitist and takes dedication and practice to learn. This appeals to me, I don't want to know how to do something that and schmuck with $100 bucks can learn in a day. You can't do that with magic (regardless of what Ellusionist wants us to believe).

As I was saying earlier, I hold magicians to a higher standard. Intelligent, poised and retaining a certain mystery to them. I understand on this and other forums dedicated to just magic, that the act can be dropped. I don't like to see the style some "Newer" magicians are performing with. Even Angel (although I hate him most all the time with a passion) has a certain style about him (and no I don't mean the liking other men thing). I do still love Blaine, after all he was the person that helped inspire me. Of course now I've expanded horizons and have a bigger list. I love watching Jay Sankey, Tommy Wonder, and Jeff McBride. Mark Wilson is big on my list just because his book of magic helped start me off and still is the basis for my cups and balls routine today.

I believe myself to be easy to get along with and a friendly guy. I'll help newcomers when I can and be as much help as I can be. Unfortunately over the last few months (about 5), I've slacked off. My daughter was born and I was starting a family, getting settled and so on. It made it hard to practice, I am finally back and am a little rusty so any advice when I ask for it is much appreciated. Let no one ever say I can't take constructive criticism.

Greetings and salutations to you all, I shall start perusing the forums in a moment.

-Grant
