Though I should say hello

Postby MentalGP » Jun 18th, '11, 19:45

Hi everyone. I've been reading posts on here for a week or so since joining and have finally plucked up the courage (so-to-speak) to say hello since you seem by and large to be a friendly bunch.

I'm a GP practising in North Yorkshire. I became interested in magic as a child and performed to anyone who visited my parents' home. Whilst they left (hopefully) not knowing how my tricks were effected, I think they had a pretty good idea that I didn't possess supernatural abilities! At the age of perhaps 11 my parents were able to take us abroad for the first time. There we met a "medium" who literally blew me away with her abilities - she was quite clear that amazing things she did were real and there was no trickery.

Whilst I have my own views now about communicating with the dead (or "cold reading" as I prefer to call it) I have discovered in recent months that mentalistic effects leave your audience wondering if maybe, just maybe, I am now possessed of supernatural ability myself. For me, this is even more thrilling than vanishing the silk into the TT!

Ploughing through "13 Steps" and "PMM" with a little more modern input from Max Maven and "Prism" I've 'swamid' my way into causing my staff to wonder if I may, after all be even more weird than they originally thought.

I'm hoping to learn from you all and hopefully to contribute positively in the coming months.

Welcome. May we ask where in Yorkshire?
There's a few yorkshire based folk on here that used to have a meet up in Leeds a few moons ago I'm trying to get going again.
Aside from that there's a regular (monthly) Manchester meet up

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details
