Does anyone know any good books (which you can get as an audio book) on the history of magic or a old magician (apart from Houdini) thanks 

Anything by Jim Steinmeyer (apart from the book he did on Charles Fort.)

Or the Taschen book Magic 1400-1950s which is super pricey but apparently gorgeous.

The Taschen book is very pricey, but my brother gave it to me for Christmas. A treat.

However I am not aware of any book available as audio books.

- I must admit I don't know of any audio books on Magic either, perhaps that's a market which an enterprising magish could go for? It ought be be simple enough to produce an audio of History and certainly some of the written works referred to could be read and recorded easily.

You can get "Confessions of a Conjuror" on audiobook. But the only history is the early days of DB. Still worth a listen though...

Joe: There were several BBC Radio programmes on the History of Magic and one on Robert Houdin presented by Paul Daniels.

Not so long ago there was another--subject escapes me--but I missed it

VIDEOS.
Then there are the 6 Video programmes put out by the BBC on The History Of Magic.
The IMS video on The Great Masters Of Magic
Channel 4's Heroes of Magic (showing magicians old and a few newer ones + some history)
Mysteries of Magic 1--2--3 Discovery Channels Magic's History.
There are 2 videos--probably now on DVD-- I bought a few years back-on The History Of Magic put out by Jeff Busby in the USA.
TITLE: The Story of Magic
1. Centuries Of Deception 100mins
2. Mystery in America.

They have illustrations, old films and clips of a number of the Great Masters and not so great!

Then there are the CDs put out by Martin Breese--get them from Magick Enterprises (Russell Hall) Sheffield.
These have interviews with Robert Harbin, Goodliffe (who's he Mr. T?) and many others
