Giddy with excitement......

Postby cartorious » Jul 1st, '11, 13:29

Hi guys,

Bit of a pointless topic really, but i just felt like sharing my excitement......

Having ordered the 'Royal Road to Card Magic' book at the start of this week, it should (3-5 working days deliver; come on royal mail - don't let me down!!!!) be arriving today..........Can't remember the last time i felt so excited waiting for the postman!!!!!!

......That is all.

It's a cracking book but it is A LOT to take in at the start.

While it is daunting to begin with, you will be handling cards better and doing simple yet effective tricks within a few pages. Stick with it and you'll be very happy with the possibilities.

If you struggle, I suggest picking up a copy of the DVD companion of the same name by Paul Wilson. It is costly in comparison but it's very good and it's nice to be able to see examples and tips for what you are reading.

As I found, it's worth taking your time, don't skip ahead, learn each technique and then spend a few minutes before you start any new material, practicing all the preceeding stuff.

As Dave said the Paul Wilson DVD definitely helps to put the words into a visual context. Whatever you do don't trust you-tube 'tutorials', most of them can't perform the techniques in the first place so all you'll learn is the wrong way perform it.

Hello cartorious,

I got a hold of the DVD box set a couple of weeks ago now.
I also got "Complete Card Magic" by Gerry Griffin.

I've been spending several hours a day practising, & it's certainly paying off.
I'm already looking to buy more DVD teaching format, but cannot make up my mind which to get yet.

I agree with Heckler, the stuff on UTube's c*** (not the best).

Look good...

.......slightly intrigued by the 'sexy time' trick..... .......but as I'm still technically at work (although 5:15pm on a Friday isn't my most productive hour).....I'm dubious about watching the demo vid

I own Blockbusters and it's good fun and explained well. Paul does expect you to know a couple of slights but they are quite basic ones.

If you want a couple of good crowd pleasers, I also suggest his corner of Piccadilly and The Red Herring.

Thanks Dave,

I'm getting pretty good with my slights, but I am putting in the practice.
(Bit of a compulsive behaviour disorder person  )

Elmsley/Hammond, & quite a few confident shuffles under my magic belt now, & very pleased with my progress.

Anymore suggestions you may have for intermediate/advanced DVD's would be appreciated.
