Practicing, yes. Rehersal, no.

One can practice a sleight too much, in that the sleight is performed too fast. Fast moves = suspicion.

For me, the ideal amount is around 2 x 2 1/2 hour sessions per week.

If I have a gig in the pipeline, I'll practice my act every day for a week before the gig.

Thanks Sparejoker,

I have to agree with this.
I no I am only learning, but I prefer the slight moves to be done very deliberately, & with great care, & accuracy.
For me personally, when I watch some magicians, the pace is a little too quick, & I tend to get a little confused with the whole trick.

I'll learn the moves from the pro's, then go at my own pace. Hopefully with great care, & attention to detail.

Thanks for your input.
Be Well.

To be honest I rarely practice. I occasionally rehearse. But mostly my magic is done in front of audiences. I reserve the rest of my time for books (not magic ones), family, hobbies and writing.

Any tips on how you go about 'burning-in' a new routine?

Do it in front of people (not mirrors) and change the way you do it slightly each time. After half a dozen (or two dozen) tries it should be coming close to right.
