Introductions

Postby jim ferguson » Jul 14th, '11, 16:39

A bit of a rant here :)
Is it just me or does anyone else get annoyed with the lack of introductions on here at times ? I know its not compulsary but sometimes it just seems a little rude. We wouldnt (i hope) just walk up to a crowd of people, unanounced, and butt into their conversation would we. Yet it seems to happen here often. Surely its just polite to at least say hello first ? Whats worse is that half of them dont seem to bother reading the rules either, yet it clearly asks when they join if they have read and agree to the forum rules - to which they have obviously clicked ''yes''.
Rant over :)

Well as much as introductions are nice, it isn't exactly the real world on here, many people aren't here to make friends and meet up, they're just here for advice, infomation and reviews, so it's not really like just going up to a group of people un-announced. It would be nicer to have one, but then if people haven't done one, it doesn't mean people should just flat out be rude to them. There was a guy who I just saw join, who has a web-site for his magic that he performs for a living, he hadn't done an introduction yet but started a thread that put out an idea and said, any thoughts? That's not exactly saying can you tell me how this trick is done. The first responce to him was a bit of a sarcastic jab with nothing to do with him thread. I feel that it's a little bit of a shame because of people like that, just flat out being rude to someone who clearly is a performer, it may make them think, well if it's like that here, I'm taking my ball and going home (or over to another cafe type of forum).

Just something I think for all you out there who have done something similar to a new person, you know who you are.

I agree some come on here not to post but to read reviews/ tips etc, nothing wrong with that. Im talking about those who actually post. Surely its just good manners to say hello first. I know its not the ''real world'' (whatever that may mean) but its still a bunch of folk 'conversing', and as such requires the same courtesy, in my opinion.
While its not the topic of this thread I agree with you that the new guys should be made to feel welcome - regardless of wether they have posted an introduction or not. Im certainly not advocating ''picking'' on anyone. In fact i am usually one of the first to speak out if i feel someone is being treated unfairly :)
