A nice article about the use of technology in magic today. Particularly smartphones.

Apart from putting the phone into a balloon there is nothing magical about iphones.

They seem to be replacing cards as magic for nerds.

Surely iphone magic just screams "clever technology"? Who is ever going to believe that anything weird, freaky, or remotely magical has actually occurred?

I agree, I recently saw an app for the iphone that was of three spoons, you got someone to call out the number of the spoon they want to bend, and it bends. What's the point???

People actually buy these? Surly no magician would unless it was for a laugh.

The problem with all iPhone magic apps is that people don't go "Wow!" they say "it's either voice recognition, timed or you touched a button on the side."

After all, it's no more magical than a computer and using a computer, I can turn the onscreen cup you chose into a rabbit.

Exactly. I do believe that the iphone apps are not helping magicians in any way as anyone could be performing the trick within a few minutes. They also lack the interaction between the performer and spectator which is what makes a good performance.
