I haven't got a stage name - my normal name is what I get booked by - but I always liked the stage name "Darwin".

Imagine:

"Darwin - the next step in the evolution of magic"

Now no nicking it ;)

This could turn into an ongoing thread for people trying to figure out a good stage name. I myself wonder if my own name is interesting enough to warrant just using my regular name, or whether a title with a little more pizazz would help me develop a memorable presentation style more clearly.

Also Stacy Smith, with it's alliterative initials sounds more like a reporter from a comic book than a magician.

I say just go with your actual name, then maybe a tagline for the show: Wayne Bowns: Night of Magic (or whatever you want the tagline to be?)

i think as long as it doesn't go like: xxxx, The Magnificent!

I just go by my name, but i envy those who naturally have great names that are awesome for stage. One that comes to mind is my university prof, who's family name was Featherstone. Without trying too hard, Prof Featherstone already conjures up the Harry Potter idea!

I actually used to work with a Michael Hunt (evidently the obvious didn't dawn on his parents), obviously no ladies used to ask if anyone had seen him.....

Postby Allen Tipton » Jul 26th, '11, 14:26

And to follow up the 'wainbow' gag use the biz that Eric Sharp has in his books.

When they say--'It's Rainbow'
I can't say 'Rainbow'
Oh yes you can (NO DON'T USE THE PANTO GAG|)
iI can only say''Wainbow' I never ever could say--'Rainbow'.
You just said it.
Oh so I did. What a good little girl I am
The rest I leave to you.

Interesting. If you're good enough, you may some day win a Darwin Award.

Had a thought myself on a possible stage name and performance piece - entry idea.

Here's the premise, I have the James Bond theme playing and I enter to - The names Bowns, Wayne Bowns, 006 and a half, license to be totally crazy.

What do you think ?

seriously though think strongly about just using your own name. I always associate stage names with clowns. And I associate clowns with, hmm lets just say I have issues with grownups who put on a disguise and then hang around children.

Go ahead hate me. I don't mind honest.

Stage name

It really does make sense to us at least your first name. Saves confusion. I wonder, in his early years when Robert Harbin was called out as Bob he looked around as his name was Ned Williams.

Also If you can use your real name-it makes the cheques for your bookings easier to make out.
Banks now seem to be getting stricter on your exact name on a cheque.
