Color Change with small hands

Postby Krakon » Jul 24th, '11, 11:58

Hey guys, I recently bought a DVD called 'Steve Deller work and play' In this DVD it teaches you a what seems simple way of the 'colour change' flourish/trick. Me being only 14 my hands are not very big and whenever I try to change a card instantly using the 'colour change' The card always pops out the sides of my hand.
Do you guys know of any tips to stop this from happening please?

If you're using poker sized cards (eg Bicycles), try bridge sized instead - Waddingtons or Piatnik, for example..

Practice! Just find where the card will not stick out the sides! Everyones hands are different, so you need to adapt certain instructions to yourself :)

Jay Sankey's always saying how small his hands are and how that doesn't stop him being able to do sleights.

I don't know the specific colour change you're trying to do, but I'm sure it's possible...

Some of the most amazing colour changes I have seen were performed by Harry Snick ("The Midget Magician") whose hands were not much larger than that of a baby's.

Rene Levand only has one hand, and it is not a very big hand, and his moves are next to impossible to detect.

Small hands is just an excuse, there is always a way, and usually the way is practice.

I have this DVD set and don't really like this colour change, it always seem a bit untidy to me. I have put the Erdnase change in instead

There are quite a number iof changes out there, where you have your fingers spread open. Hand size isnt an issue with these. Maybe researching other versions is the answer. One of the earliest books on card magic,"Neo card magic" has some lovely changes.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Go and learn the Bertram Change. This doesnt rely on hand size (to be fair, I dont think any do, its technique... But if you have a hang up about your hands being small...) and, providing youre good with your angles, is one of the most stunning, visual changes out there (in my opinion). You should also be ok with the Cardini change, again, if you learn your angles.

Hope this helps

Not really beginners changes though..

Just learn the Erdnase Colour Change. Then work on perfecting it.

Ace of Kev... Krakon has been doing magic since he was 4 according to his signature, the issue is hand size not experience, which led me to recommend learning the Bertram Change.
