Penguin Magic.com!!!!!

Postby Blade Master » Jun 11th, '05, 01:59

No I'm not a spokesmen nor do I work there, but I have to say that these guys have the cheapest magic tricks I've ever seen besides going to eBay. You can find over 50% discounts on tons of there inventory items and you'd be suprized. I went down to the mall not to long ago and looked around at their stock and practically everthing was twice as much!!!

The hummingbird card was $25 and PM.com had it for $10. The Svengali/Invisible/Mind Reader decks were all $15 bucks while PM had all for $5.95. I talked to the manager who said he could top anything Penguin could through out, but was literally shocked to find that PM's Rising Card Deck was only 10 bucks while they were selling it for 20. He even told us that it costs him that much to stock that item.

And beyond all that, the magic shop didn't have bicycle cards, only those annoying unbikes. :x And finally all of PM stuff is FREE SHIPPING.

I challenge all to find an online or even shop that sells for less! :D

Penguin is cheap, but there are other problems. One is that there is a lot of stuff that they don't sell. Another is that many magicians have issues with Penguin as they sell a lot of Magic Makers items. Magic Makers is a company notorious for creating rip-offs of other tricks.

As Kati has mentioned, Penguin are cheaper than most of their competitors, but their range is not as extensive as it could be. Not bad, though. I find them to have an excellent all-round package: not only do you get the trick you paid for, but you also get access to Penguin Only forums and instructional videos (some of which could do with some improvement!) And a 10% discount for all repeat customers is nice, too. But they need to get some Bicycle decks because they have been out of stock for an age! Overall, I think Penguin are a very good site.

I agreee, PM is good, but I have also had problems with items out of stock for a very long time.

I really like PM. I'm used to the site and I purchase all my magic from there! PM's best thing is that they have demo videos for almost every item they have which is a huge benefit as you know what the trick is about! You can actually see the trick in action!

Another reason I almsot only use PM is because many sites don't seem "official" enough and I don't want to give out card details and stuff to them. magicshop is quite good though!

Where exactly do I find the 10% discount for repeat purchases? I've trawled through some emails they've sent with order confirmations etc, but haven't spotted it yet.

It's on a physical letter they send along with the receipt for the second order - i.e. on a sheet of paper.

Paper?

Thought that was a thing of the past now we are in the modern 'paperless' computer generation!

Gosh, how nice to see that old habits die hard - whatever next? Perhaps someone will invent internet shopping where you can physically go into the shop and really meet people face-to-face and talk to them. Still, don't think that will ever catch on.

Seriously though, as a CUPS sufferer have used PM (and just about every other supplier) and found them to be very efficeinet in sending out what they had and painful in not getting what they didn't. Still, stock is the key to being a good retailer I suppose.

On a positive note further. I found Merlin, Alakazam and JB Magic all excellent for what they didn't have (or even sell) they pointed me to in other retailers. Now that's what I call service.

Vic

ps. Was in Cambridge for a supervision yesterday and was pleased to see some pretty good quality 'pocket money' magic and other stuff on sale in the new first-floor shop. I was also told that there is a company relocating to Cambridge in the new year so keep watching Kati - the magic is coming! (Now who is this company I wonder???)
