Repositional Glue

Postby Vanderbelt » Jul 28th, '11, 18:33

While, like many of us, I love and cherish my repositional glue in a spray for all manner of things, I'm in need of some that I can place a little dot of but can't find any anywhere that's suitable.

Having had a google, I came across some repositionable glue dots in staples but they didn't really work out, ideally I'm after it in a tube etc.

Anyone using anything like this? It's for affixing a billet to the back of a business card which can then easily be removed and finger palmed once written on.

go to a craft shop. buy a zig glue pen, or sakura quicky glue pens if you want a seriously tiny amount. these glues are basicaly the same. they go on blue, and are permenent. let them dry, and they become a repositional glue. you can also get glue tape pens, that are repositional. these make an excelent roughing product.

I have one in a pen but can't remember the name of it. Picked it up from rymans, I'll bring it to Manchester so you can see if it's suitable

I agree with Dale, the Zig pens can be bought with different sized tips for various purposes. Also the glue can be rubbed off with vigorous action from the thumb, so if you tire of the gaffs you've made you can re-use the cards or whatever.

You can buy the pens here http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/ I couldn't give a direct link to the glue but just punch Zig into the search and you should find it.

Hobbycraft Stores sell this stuff in pens, I can't see it on ther online shop so a vist to a local store would be best. Also try W.H.Smith plus local stationery shops, many are into craft stuff and might stock it.

of course, if you are only using this to fix a billet to a card, you could always use Post it notes as billets. they come with a handy bit of glue atatched. :)

Nyman uses a very cheap alternative but not sure if it counts as exposure?

Another alternative is the Scotch Repositionable glue, which comes in a stick, a bit like a drier than usual Pritt Stick.

The blue glues (Zig and Sakura, as mentioned by Dale and others) are wet glues, but dry tacky.

Possibly a silly question, but have you tried using a mask with your spray glue? Cut a circle or square in a bit of card or paper larger than the business card and lay this over the business card. Spray the aerosol glue as usual and the glue will only hit the business card through the hole. Might be worth a try before you hunt round for different types of glues.

I have and this is what I'm moving away from as the billet is balled up in finger palm and the post-it tends to stick to itself which is taking the edge off the reveal. Also, by using a white billet I'm a little more free with my angles and can very casually flash the back of the business card stack.

Not a silly question at all. The thought had occured to me but I was reluctant because it was wasteful and a hassle - fine if I was making up one or two cards but for a busy day of walkaround I can go through plenty of these. (Yes, I'm both lazy and tight)

The situation is however solved, found a Bostik Stickipen in Rymans which I think is the one Mandrake and possibly z0mbie recommended. Works an absolute treat, thank you very much for your help guys :)

z0mbie - not sure if you caught this effect in Manchester, remind me to show it to you next time.

Hmm, if its the same thing I'm thinking of then not really as long as you don't mention the effect? Does it have a blue label?

But I'll leave it up to you to tell ha!

I know what you're referring to but wouldn't really do it in this instance - wht you're referring to generally works best on coated surfaces - as in Nyman's effect and don't hold as securely as I need them to.
