Buskers Amps

Postby fluteyrach » Aug 2nd, '11, 11:24

Hi guys, I wondered if anyone could give me any advice on Buskers Amps!

I've got about £100 to spend (or less!). I play flute and want to play along to backing tracks! The flute seems to carry quite well anyway so it's mainly the backing track coming through in good quality to balance with the flute! Also I want the tone of the flute to be picked up ideally, so it sounds nice! I might sing too so I want that to be picked up if poss.

I've seen a Roland Microcube for £99ish, but it's only 5 watts. Not sure about sound quality?!
I've seen Crate TX15 which is 15 watts but looks heavy - 20lbs!

Any advice / suggestions?
Thanks!

VOX do a very good portable Amp fluteyrach, a good clear sound, with a few built in effects. Runs off of a small battery, as well as mains.

I have one at home.
Haven't had it out for a few years, can't for the life of me remember the model name, but there should be plenty on the market.
Cost around £80 quid, about 15watt.

I used one for teaching a few years back, good little work horse.

I have an AmpCan, but these are hard to come by nowadays.

If all you want is a backing track, and you don't want to drown out your flute then the 5W Cube would be a good bet. Go into your local music store and ask to try one out - they should let you - and plug in your MP3 player. Test the volume, and I think you'll find that 5W at 75% volume will be loud enough for most uses.

Crates are good, but heavy. Also, since you are only looking for backing, probably more than you need.

Thanks guys! I prob need to go to the shop and try a few out!
I'd like it to have potential to be a bit louder, it might be handy to have at gigs as well. Prob asking a bit a much at under £100 though! :)
