Blank'd by Richard James

The Effect
The trick starts with the magician showing two cards, which are blank on both sides. Next the deck is riffled and a card is chosen, and placed between the two blank cards. The card then disappears right in front of the spectators eyes! The card is then found face up in the middle of the deck of cards!

Cost
£9.99 from Magicbox

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I would give this a difficulty of 3, there is one force which requires very basic slight of hand, and if you don't handle the cards carefully, it is easy to expose the gimmick.

Review

I bought this trick after watching the trick performed on Richard James' YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea_aHnjOTTI

You will need your own deck of bicycle cards for this trick (colour isn't important), supplied are the two blank cards and instructions on how to use the gimmick. The gimmick is easy to use, and it isn't hard to make the vanish look amazing, however you will need some basic slight of hand to perform the entire trick.

The trick only took about 5 minutes to learn, and another 20 minutes of practice to master, the only thing which makes this trick slightly difficult is not exposing the gimmick, but with a bit of practice and care when performing the trick, it should remain well hidden.

If you can easily do finger breaks you should have no problems performing this trick.

Overall

If you are a beginner, this trick will require practice, but it isn't beyond the grasp of beginners. If you are experienced with card tricks, you should have no problems mastering this trick. The vanishing effect looks amazing and is easy to master.

Overall I would give this a 8.5 / 10

I have a theory on how this works but may I ask, are the blanks examinable before and after the vanish?

I may have been born yesterday but I stayed up all night.

The blanks aren't examinable, if you do figure out how it is done, it would work out easier and less frustrating to buy the trick, for £9.99 it as an excellent effect :)
