I have an akura lcd 32" dvd combo which has developed a sync problem, it looks like there is an overlay of the picture being viewed which is repeating itself like the old vertical sunc rolling on older sets.
this also effects the on screnn graphics when no signal is aplied to the tv, has the onscreen menues become corupt or is it brown bread, any assistance greatfully recieved, its hard to watch dvds on a 19" when youve been spoilt with 32"'s :)

You know, I swear by the old tube tvs. I have a few, and theres nothing like sticking a tape into the old vcr and watching an old horror film. Theres just too much that can go wrong with all this modern technology :)

Based on a quick Google search, it sounds like one of the computer boards in the TV is shot. They can be replaced, but often the repair is nearly as expensive as buying a new set.

How old is the TV? If it's had a reasonable lifespan already, then it's really not worth repairing, since other components are probably ready to fail too. If it's still fairly new, it might be worth contacting a TV repair place and asking for an estimate.

Unlike old 'analogue' tuner TVs, sync problems or ghosting on more modern sets are usually a sign of it being FUBAR.

Sadly, it's probably out of warranty.

Just some things to try first...

1. Remove ALL cables except for the power lead.

2. Try inputting an HDMI or SCART (or composite) source, if the result is the same sync problem, then it's more than likely knackered, as these inputs will be 'clean' ish.

Oh for the days when the telly still responded to percussive maintenance (e.g. a short sharp slap in just the right place.)

It's a pity that such things seem to have short lives these days, our trusty old CRT TV is close on 20 years old, still works well (with occasional dodgy sound at times!) and, unlike modern sets which are as thin as a razor blade, we can perch things on our telly - Christmas and Birthday cards, ornaments, my son's cat when we're looking after her... :D !

We just got a new TV a few weeks ago. Our first modern, slimline, LED, widescreen, HD-ready one. Whoo!

And now there's nowhere to put the clock. At the moment it's perched unhappily on the Xbox.

Off topic but, my neighbour tried to service his own car the other day. In the process he unhooked the battery. When he put it all back together none of the sensors on the dash worked. He broke down and brought it to the mechanic. First thing the mechanic asked was "did you unhook the battery?" It seems that in this new age if you unhook the car battery it knocks out a computer chip and you have to have a mechanic with the right equipment for your particular car to have them reset. He had to go back to the dealer and pay $200.00 USD to get it working.

All so he could replace a 10.00 part.
