Bill Palmer's (WIFE)

Postby TedTalon » Aug 7th, '11, 11:12

Jason Ring of Nexus Magic asked me to post this:

I know that this isn't the place where this post should go, but I wanted to reach the most people as I could at once. Some may not know Bill Palmers wife is struggling right now in the hospital and she could use all of our collective positive thoughts and prayers.

Since Bill is such a huge contributor to the collective of magic. I would ask the moderators as an exception to please leave this post where it can be most visible.... TY

Here is his recent posts: Bill Palmer
For all my friends (and Carol's friends) who are following her progress, here's the latest update. Thursday afternoon, her condition was upgraded to stage 3 lung cancer, possibly treatable with chemo and biotherapy. However, Friday morning, she stopped breathing and went into v-fib and a-fib. she was stabilized, and by Friday afternoon, she seemed to recognize us again. She slept last night with a ventilator. This morning she is sleeping. I'll see her again in a few minutes.

Today's results were much better. The oncologist came in and said that he needed to check on the condition of her heart. Hopefully, she can have the strength to pursue chemotherapy.

Thanks again to all of you for your supports and kind thoughts.

And thank you for reading this I will keep all up to date. Please show you love and support in their time of need. We are all Gentleman of magic and when the chips fall we should all be there to levitate

Very sad news indeed. Bill is a true gentleman and is always willing to help others (especially with advice on Cups and Balls). Im sure anyone here who knows him will be right behind both him and his wife.

Todays Update

Bill Palmer:

Morning report from the ICU -- Carol slept well during the night. They have her sedated now so she doesn't keep trying to spit out the breathing tube. She hates that tube. But she recognizes us, she has said a couple of words that we could understand, which is difficult when you have a breathing tube down your gullet. The did an echocardiogram on her yesterday, and we are waiting for the results.

More later -- and thanks to all of you.

Thank all of you for your prayers and support. Here's the latest news. We got the results of the echocardiogram. Her heart has suffered no damage at all. It is in fine condition. Thanks once more for your prayers and support.

Brief update on Carol's condition. She is stable, and she is lucid. She recognizes all of us and is really frustrated by the ventilator tube, because she cannot speak.

There is more hope. The surgeon who is handling Carol's case has said that she is ready to have a trach tube put in. This will take her off the ventilator, which she hates!!!! Thanks again for all of your prayers, support and good wishes.

To all of my friends who have e-mailed me and have sent their prayers and good wishes, I thank each and every one of you very, very much. Carol was moved to a regular ICU today. This is progress. Also, she will be having a tracheostomy tomorrow, so she will be able to speak, eat and drink. There are nine prayer circles (at least!) who are praying for her. Again, I thank all of you.

Evidently, some of my friends thought that yesterday's progress meant that Carol has recovered. This is not the case. She is still not out of the woods.

UPDATE: August 13th

Carol's situation improves steadily every day. On Thursday afternoon, her ventilator tube was replaced with a tracheostomy tube, which means that she doesn't have a garden hose running down her throat any more. She should be breathing on her own soon. Yesterday evening we moved her to a long term acute care facility in Sugar Land. She will be there for a few weeks while her health improves enough to start her on chemo. Thanks for your prayers and support.

UPDATE: August 17th

I have set up a web site to show Carol's progress. It is at http://www.carolhpalmer.com . Thanks so much for your help, support and prayers.

Carol spent much of the day without support from the ventilator machine. They are gradually weaning her off the ventilator.

UPDATE: August 18th

Yesterday they installed a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube, which allows her to be fed directly into the stomach, rather than through a nasal feeding tube. This will be much better in the next few days. Friends, if you still smoke, please stop.

Re: Bill Palmer's (WIFE) SAD NEWS

Postby TedTalon » Sep 1st, '11, 09:40

August 31
This morning about 5:25 AM, I got a call from the hospital, requesting approval for the installation of another IV line. I consented, and the line was installed. At 7:45 AM, just before I left for the hospital, I got another call, stating that her blood pressure was dropping rapidly, and they were going to do everything the could to keep it up.

I looked in on her at the hospital, and could see that she was not doing well at all. She was in a state of agonal breathing, which looks very painful. Her bodily functions were not good. I prayed for her several times during this period.

I returned to the hospital at 3:45 to see if there was any improvement. There was none. I asked them if they could keep her alive until her mother shows up tomorrow. They said they would do their best.

Their best wasn't good enough to combat the general physical failure of Carol's body. At 8:20 PM, after a series of attempts at CPR and other heroic measures, Carol slipped into eternal rest.

This is very difficult for me, but I do have a support group of friends, some local, some national, some international. They have all been a big help to me.

I thank you again for your support. I will keep everyone posted about funeral arrangements, etc.

My thoughts and sympathies are with Bill and his family.

If you are ever to meet Bill you will be amongst a man that has so much warmth and so much to give anyone inspiring to learn. When I met Bill and his Wife Carol, she was so welcoming of this Brit from across the pond. She will be missed by many.
