Flourishes- Little card manipulations

Postby Tjex1 » Aug 11th, '11, 16:53

Hi

I have been watching various tutorials for various moves and saw a lot of little things like card spins and fans and different manipulation things and was wondering if there is a book that I can learn all of these "little" flourishes from.

Thanks,
Tjex

there are hundeds of dvds out there.

Remember though, whist some of this stuff looks nice, its not magic. Remember to learn some card effects too. :)

I'm seeing an lot of posts recently, not just from you, saying I've watched tutorials. Have you bought the royal road to card magic? It has a small section on flourishes. Card college I believe does as well within the first volume if royal road isn't to your taste. There is material purely on flourishes, but a general book may be more use.

Thanks for the help.

I bought a book by Jon Tremaine recently and found it very good, and am wanting to move onto some more intermediate stuff. If RRTCM is good for that I was planning on getting it. With the tutorials thing, I am getting more books but for the moment I am using YouTube more because I have exhausted the content in my current books, at the weekend I should be able to get more.

One more thing, instead of starting a new thread (which I have been doing a lot of lately), how can I keep my cards clean? The nice white edges go brown (more like beige) and the clump together a lot. Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks[/url]

I'm suggesting royal road for a number of reasons. It is cheap and easy to get hold of. It's sometimes in stock at waterstones and a lot of other bookshops stock it as well. If not amazon will have it cheap. It covers most sleights and a good range of tricks. It only has a small section on flourishes, but does cover fans, spreads, turnovers, and a few other bits. Not everyone likes it. Some I know have found Mark Wilson's guide clearer for illustrations and for giving more than card magic and card college is increasingly recommended as a starting point.

As for dirty cards I think it's just something you accept. Wash your hands regularly. But ultimately they will get dirty if there being used and especially if they get handed to spectators.
