Who makes the decks?

Postby Mancunian Lee » Aug 13th, '11, 07:56

I bought a stripper deck, a red bicycle one. They handle and feel just like a genuine US playing card company deck, very good quality in this respect but the gaff that makes them different is very very obvious. A layman can spot them. My wife from a few feet away asked if they where misprints because she could see it.

Now I got in touch with who I purchased them from and they said they are made by "Fun Inc" in America. Are they making their own or do they modify USPCC decks? Either way im looking to avoid them and purchase a good quality deck.

Tomo is your man for stripper decks. He recommends the USPCC ones. I have one of those and there is no way that a spectator could spot the gimmick. Poor handling is another matter, of course :)

Fun Inc generally provide low-cost props. It would not surprise me to learn that they cut their own stripper decks. They are not known for being complete rubbish, though. The ones you have must be truly awful if someone can spot the gimmick just by looking from a distance!

If you take a deck to a commercial printers then they can cut a deck for you and if you speak to them nicely then they will often do it for free or in exchange for a 10 minute session of tricks during their tea break.

Commercial printers have a lazer guillotine which will cut through a couple of decks like a knife cuts through butter. The decks are lined up one on top of the other and are cut with a razor sharp blade but the accuracy of the lazer means that the blade will cut with milimetre precision.

Most towns will have a commercial printer so check one out and you can get all sorts of decks cut that you can't otherwise buy.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
