Card trick suggestions

Postby Benjamin_Jones » Aug 4th, '11, 20:23

Hi everyone, I've been working my way through RRTCM and Mark Wilsons complete course and am particularly interested in card work. I want a few tricks to practise and master to develop my skills in the different sleights etc I am learning. I want about 3-4 tricks and was hoping for some suggestions. I am looking at oil and water as I want to make use of elmsley count. What other suggestions do you have. Not loooking for methods, I'll work that out myself - just ideas for some good modern effects. PM me if necessary.

Thanks

You have a gold mine at your finger tips in those two books alone, more than you will ever need. Read through the descriptions and choose a few you like. And off you go.

As to modern? Modern is in presentation and that is up to you.

From Mark Wilson, I often use the Insto Transpo clever combination (or however it's called). A nice quick and visual effect that always goes down well and makes a nice little opener for a set. Thinking about it, that's the only card trick that I do do.

I like the Torn and Restored card effect in Mark Wilson's Course. Sure there are tons of niffty keeno ones already on the market. But the one in Mark Wilson's course is straight up. No fuss, no muss and allows one to focus on presentation rather then secretly folding the card into all kinds of crazy contortions.

As said, you have a gold mine of tricks to choose from.

What you should consider is that different tricks suit different people for different reasons.

To start I would recommend trawling the magic sites and watch the demo videos. Make a list of the ones that you like and start from there.

I recommend that you consider tricks that you can do using the same deck as it won;t look too good having to use a different deck for each trick. You can scatter a couple of packet tricks in there too.

Once you have your list you can then sort out what works and what doesn't. As an example, you don't want three prediction routines and one transposition. Make sure that the routines that you end up with are all different to one another.

Good luck

The Color of Money [sic] Darwin Ortiz - Scams & Fantasies (book and DVD) fits this description.
