first show, second offer

Postby Marting » Aug 15th, '11, 18:51

iv been offered the chance to perform at a night club. the store(old GRV) in edinburgh. now i was asked last month but declined as i wasn't happy with the conditions id be working under.

i was going to be placed outside the dance floor enterance(very noisy) or in the smoking area(its all stairs and i dont know enough "cocktail tricks"). they've said they can set up an area inside but will be out the way a bit. this will be signed so people can find it.

i have two routines one more polished than the other. they would want me to perform for an hour or two so my idea was to do a ten minute routine 3-4 times, say once every half hour.
do you think i could do one routine for each of the shows or should i alternate the two. do i need worry about repetitiveness and people coming back to watch again?
also id have friends there who have seen at some point over the past years the effects ill be performing.
it opens at eleven and usually full by one. when do you think would be the best time to do it over?

I have done a few nightclubs, but it is not something I specialise in. I would recommend forgetting your routines - people won't be able to hear you, and won't want to spend the timne.

You need a few visual tricks. Torn and restored card, swallowing a balloon, flaming wallet, etc. Do these continuously would be my advice, for what it is worth.

Good advice Tony

I would suggest some flash paper effects.Try using coins, bills, rings or anything else that is at you disposal without it looking propy.I find cards work for me but only in a more quiet area where I can talk.

Coin in bottle, torn and restored, a good cup and ball routine. Just a few options but the more visual tricks will be better for a night club I think.

if i was to just pick some tricks to perform i think it might turn out to be a puzzle for people to solve as there wouldnt be much structure to it. i can get a quiet area so i might go down that route rarther that habberdash some tricks together and hope for the best. i only have two weeks to prepare so id rarther do things iv tested mechanically as well as verbally.

any experienced input on the questions i mentioned in the first post would be welcome.
