Card magic.

The magic routine I enjoy performing the most is Time Piece (Cardshark, Darwin Ortiz). Basic effect: A haunted pocket watch finds a card previously selected by a spectator. The watch then predicts a time that the spectator merely thought of. Finally, the engraving on the back of the watch changes into the name of the selected card. Ends completely clean, watch can be examined at the end (the watch is completely ordinary, and is not gaffed in any way).

See above. The routine I like performing the most is the one that gets the best reaction.

Everything - ditch anything that doesn't get the reaction that you're after.

(4) Favourite magic trick you enjoy watching a fellow magician perform?

I love the big stage illusions, particularly anything done by Copperfield.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

1. Bizarre magic, or at least storytelling, usually heavily plot based magic. Increasingly doing just readings though.

2. I enjoy performing From Hell a lot. It was one of the first bizarre tricks I got and has remained a favourite as a result. Despite the them I find it actually one where I get a lot of laughs oddly. On the whole my favourite tricks are practically self working ones like from hell where the spectators are the centre of attention rather than the magician. I don't find myself enjoying card tricks where all the focus is on me as much I used to.

3. Don't about most impressive, but most memorable reaction I can think of was a day in York a year or so ago I did the haunted key. The Italian girl who I performed it to freaked and went off screaming. That convinced me it had a lot more power than I'd given it credit for.

4. Don't know about specific tricks, but certainly specific performers I've enjoyed watching. Roni's a joy to watch at work. Roy Davenport I really enjoyed. He's got a lot of enthusiasm and he knows how to pass that onto the audience.

I love performing mentalism. I love watching a good Q&A or hypnotism. What I get the best reaction from is ventriloquism. My favourite trick to perform is the balloon swallow.

We need a "like" button on this new fancy forum set out.
That post sums up so much of "magic" performance so well.

I would say I like to perform card tricks, main trick being card to pocket.
I like to watch card sleights and misdirection (VERY different from watching the effect)

The performances I do that gets the best reactions are balloon modelling and contact juggling

Not magic, but read into that what you will

Thanks so many of your for taking the time to answer my questions

Some really interesting answers, the first thing I did around 4/5 weeks ago was a Marvin's Magic course (worst waste of £50 ever  )

The Haunted Key was included, and I honestly thought I would never use it, just goes to show!

It's not the trick though that counts with the key it's the presentation. Given a good routine it kills. Same goes for almost any trick, sort your presentation and your onto a winner. Ball and tube most people would write off, but Docc Hilford took it and made a superb routine. Pea cans are another that seem like a horrible trick, but then turn up in all sorts of mentalism and bizarre presentations.
