Please feel free to delete if this topic has been done to death, but I thought it may be interesting to ask.

What is your stage name?
What is your character?
How do you represent that?
How do your character and your tricks complement each other?

My stage name, is my real name.

My character, is a slight exageration of my real character ( or as some would say, its my real character that only comes out to play if I am doing magic, theatre, or a few beers )

I don't understand the last 2 questions. :)

it might help us answer your question if you explain your character ect... :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Stage Name: Lawrence
Character: Bit drunk
Represented by: Being a bit a drunk
compliment: it's easier to get away with a mildly suggestive trick at 1:30am in a nightclub and drunk.

I think it was Paul Daniels who said that his stage persona was just him bit a bit bigger.

It should be you but the you that you want to be rather than the you that you actually are. The you that you pretend to be in front of the mirror. The you that comes up with witty scathing come backs that the real you doesnt have the guts to say. I guess what I'm saying is that your character should be the Tyler Durden you, just without the mental illness and terrorism... Unless that fits your act.

That's one of the greatest things I've read on this forum.

My stage name, although I don't work on stage, is my own name, and by that, I mean my real name, not hds02115. My character is me, just a little more polite, formal, and confident. I represent it by the way I dress and act. I'm in my twenties and so I'm no where near ready to start buying cream trousers from M &S yet, so in my normal life I wear t-shirts and jeans, but then I work I will wear a nice suit and try to speak better than I would normally. I feel my performance persona resembles the way I perform my magic. I present my magic, or at least hope I do, as a classic magician would, well dressed, polite, likable, but someone who you can respect and admire. I will say that reading back over my post it makes me seem a little boring, but it really isn't like that. The look and persona I go for reflects the venues I work at, largly weddings, so a guy wearing an offencive t-shirt and board shorts doing bizzare magic might look a bit out of place. I feel this whole "character" gives off a nice professional vibe and is also a friendly, likable non offencive look.

My stage name for kids is Tony Baloney. My character is subversive, warped, and funny. I am the sort of guy who will pass a shop, run in, and steal a cake. I find ways around rules and believe they apply to others and not to me. I portray this with a big emphasis on stories. My kids show is at least a third storytelling.

My stage name for adults is Tony Black. It is an exaggerated version of my own personality. More outgoing, more confident, and less subversive. I just play me, but a more socially acceptable version.

Like others here, I play an exaggerated, slightly idyllic version of myself. I'm more funny and confident than I usually am.

Late last year I heard a professional magician advising that, in his opinion, the ideal persona should be as per the Berocca adverts, 'You, but on a really good day'....

Sounds like a reasonable idea!
