Funny you should ask, was reading a little of my Tarball's book on magic today and the section was all about this

But before someone harsher than me comes on and lets you know, this isn't that kind of forum, secrets aren't disclosed

And this is your first post?!

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

This has given me an odd thought.
While I know the trick I have no idea where I learnt it or where one could learn it. Hmmm....

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details

It is described in John Booth's book "Marvel's of Mystery". I think it is also described in the Tarbell course somewhere. David Ben does this quite well and in fact is the only one I have ever seen do it. It was featured very strongly by Houdini. It gave way to the razor blade trick which is also described in the above books as well as Bruce Elliot's Classic Secrets of Magic. My friend famed busker Peter Snow makes a masterful job of it. The razor blades has the advantage that it is more visual and can easily be seen. It has an alleged disadvantage which may actually be an advantage. The disadvantage is that razor blades are rarely seen nowadays and a few people may not know what they are. On the other hand this could be an advantage since if kids see this trick they may well copy it with needles but would find it difficult to do so with razor blades simply because they are not around to experiment with.
