When tricks go wrong (with knives)

Someone may have posted this before but I don't remember seeing it:

It's worth waiting for the second half of the clip...

I loved his utterly dismissive finish. "Sometimes magic goes wrong." Yeah, but rarely do you physically penetrate your spectators.

Ancient history I'm afraid... there are at least a half-dozen or more videos out there showing how STUPID certain "magicians" can be. ESPECIALLY when it comes to this highly over-done routine. In a few versions the spectator ends up impaled.

I know of at least five people here in the States the performed the thing once and then quickly go rid of it because of how the "sure fire/fail safe" method FAILED and they got cut up... and that's just here in the New England area, I've no clue what the stories are across the States and Canada.

There are far safer versions to this basic effects that can be played funny or serious. The version I've done for years involves a borrowed gent's watch (usually a very expensive watch in that it makes things far funnier) which is placed into a brown paper bag... a lunch sack, as we call them over here. The top is rolled up, stapled shut and sat on the floor... that's when I introduce a basket with four other brown paper bags that are identical to the one hosting the watch... dumping and mixing them all before the watch owner can say "Uh Oh!"

Then, relying on the participant's "Intuition" I begin stomping on bags so as to completely discard them... slowly reducing the set to just two...

The routine is to be found in the SYZYGY magazine collection, which is a great place for simple, fun filled Mental Magic routines that aren't life threatening.

Having watched this a few times now are you absolutely sure that the second one wasn't set up as a publicity stunt for the legendary Julie Carpenter? I guess even if it wasn't she still got on telly for it so every credit to her for that one, and I hope she wasn't badly hurt.

the first part of the video....... whatever's under there is big and serated because he doesnt lovwer it far onto the bag before it rips into his hand..... and as he pulled it out the serated edge of the knife would hzae cut his hand and produced more blood..... they show you the girl wincing from when his blood hits her.....

i actually saw a differnt video aswell than the ink shown..... ill try and find it....... its not really a big spike but no doubt it hurt like hell

As the type of qualified nurse who has regularly witnessed folk cut their wrists, thus redecorating an entire room red within seconds, I'd suggest there isn't anywhere *near* enough arterial spray going on here

Very good point, Rob.

Plus I don't think the reactions are entirely believable.
