My new sleight and effect....

Postby svengaliposeur » Sep 5th, '11, 07:15

Morning magical fraternity,

Hope you are all well. Those of you who have seen my blog will know I am an amateur hobbyist working very hard to become capable enough to be titled a magician. My progress is chronicled through my blog and it's aim is to help others in my situation to share thoughts and ideas.

In my practise I beleive I have come up with a new sleight and effect. I'm sure if it has already been done you will tell me but my announcement here is sincere and if I repeat something already out there, then to the creator I am sorry.

Full details are on my blog at http://www.svengaliposeur.wordpress.com

I'd be very grateful if those experienced in magic would take a look and let me know what you think, either on here or comment directly on the blog. Also available on twitter too, @svengaliposeur and on Facebook.

That's it for now and looking forward to your comments.

Thamks to those viewing the blog. Getting good few hits but short of comments. Would love to hear your views on the matter.

I am mindful it could be seen to reveal too much so will only keep post up for another 24hrs. Please get your ideas and comments in soon.

Ta muchly

I'm not sure this is a 'new' sleight, it's just a different use for the pass. It definitely works, but there are probably better and more subtle ways of reversing cards already out there. Well done for experimenting with it though, as that is what learning magic is all about.

I definitely wouldn't use this as a trick by itself though. Build it into a routine, add some patter and misdirection, then it could be. But don't just say 'look, now your card is reversed at the bottom'. Reminds me of the first 'trick' I tried to perform to my family when all I had learnt was a very ropey (it still is) pass. They said 'we saw you flick it with your middle finger'. The lesson there is that unless you have a perfect pass, you need to use misdirection. With your sleight, if they were looking at your hands they could probably figure out what you did.

Good luck with your progress, from reading your blog it sounds like you're getting along quite well. I hope this post doesn't sound like I'm proclaiming 'you can't do this or that'; I'm fairly new to magic myself, and I just hope that my experience of learning magic might help other beginners too.

I think it's called something like the 'Browie Reversal' - I use it during my ACR.
