Plan to stop people posting reveal videos on youtube.

Postby smidge146 » Sep 10th, '11, 12:13

I hate the fact that when some people buy new magic trick they feel the need to post a reveal video on youtube. so here's my plan. If you do performance videos on youtube, put "+ reveal" in the title of your video and in the tags, if enough people do this then people will no longer go to youtube to get reveal videos. As they will search "reveal trick" and just end up finding a performance videos.

Good idea?

Whilst I applaud the sentiment, I rather suspect that members' time would be far better spent practising, performing and enjoying magic, rather than continuing to worry about the glut of bady performed 'reveal' vids out there.

If somebody wants the secret to an effect, they'll get it however then can, doesn't mean they are in any way capable of performing

Or how about saying its a reveal but its actually a song from the 80's ! Now thats a clever idea..........;)

I really dont think its a prob, as long as you dont name the tricks to people before you do them, whats the chances of someone finding a video of a chubby 14yr old american kid showing how tool works for example without already knowing the name of it.

Sadly it's not even the "reveal" which gives it away. There are some pretty shocking performance videos on youtube. In fact, someone on here was mentioning a TnR routine on here so I youtubed it to see what it looks like and couldn't believe how shoddy the top viewed performance was. So bad it may as well have been an instructional video. I'm not exaggerating either. Not one conceal was concealed.

But that's the problem with the youtube community - there are far too many eager people with no concept of presentation or quality. In the TnR case I find it hard to believe the kid even watched it back before posting it - it's that bad.

So while the reveals are part of the problem, I think it's a drop in the ocean. Sadly.

On the dvd for redemption the guy says at the end to please not post reveals and if you make a performance video make sure its not badly done so your flashing stuff to give it away.

So yeah c*** (not the best) performances are just as bad as plain reveals

I think people should just not perform effects to their web cams. It just screams teenager in his bedroom. I agree though that the idea at the start is a bit of a waste of time. There will always be that kid out there who has just got to get loads of youtube views. As for the poorly performed performance videos out there, which there are a few of, they really must just do one take and then upload. I've said that I'm against people performing to their cameras, but that's only in the case of uploading. I have in the past performed and recorded it, but that's purely to see it from a persons perspective, even then though, I will normally record countless clips so I can see a good range. The main culprates are these spoiled little kids (sorry to say, mostly American) who buy a ton of stuff from sites like E and then want to show the virtual world instantly. KID! I know it says on the box you can perform instantly, but that doesn't mean liturally! I'm sure the kids that do these reveal videos don't spend their own money otherwise they'd be a little more hesitant to share for free something that cost £30 plus.

Ahh, rant over...

There's another thread here praising some preformers for putting on a show revealing how they do their tricks. Strange world we inhabit.

yes but theres a stern dfifference between proffesionals putting on a show and teenage morons who think they're cool by exposing tricks.......... at least the show had a pricetag on it, so what they did was no different from selling a DVD

Rubbish - there is no difference except in the quality of the presentation. It is the same activity.

The old "chaff" effect, eh? I like it. Also put up literally hundreds of "Rick rolls" :D

How about we hire a super computer wizz to hack into youtube, find their IP addresses, then track them to where they live and give them a good kicking. What do you think? Doable?

Forget about it.
It is here to stay.
Get over it, get out performing, and leave YouTube alone, (practice instead). Present something well, and spectators tend not to care.
If someone says "I saw how that was done on YouTube", just ask them not to tell the others, and move on.
Complaining about it is almost as sad as doing it.

i see your point of view, but completely dissagree........ 2 proffesionals have spent time and money getting to a level where they are good enough to go and perform. They perform shows for hundreds every night (sell out shows most nights according to the reviews) but allow only a handful to come to the second show that explains how the first was done (again, what is written in the review section) now wether you aggree with it or not is irrelevant because the fact is this is NO different from producing a DVD........ less the TV and DVD player!!

then you have some little scrotbag who goes and buys a trick and exposes it before even having the decency to learn the trick properly!!.........the whole world can now see these tricks on youtube....... the same can't be said for the edinburgh show

I'm sorry if you dissagree with me, but the 2 can not be considered the same

They are the very same. I have no philosophical objection to exposure (I have even written a magic book) but the gratuatious nature of what Stuart and Barry are doing is offensive to me.
