Effects to perform for couples

Postby Edantes » Aug 10th, '11, 14:27

I started a thread last year about how to go about performing at a wedding, since then I've done four or five weddings and countless more anniversary parties. At all of these I usually, at some point, perform anniversary waltz for the husband and wife. However, recently I've wanted to have something to perform for couples that doesn't involve cards. I thought about a few things with finger rings but I don't think it's fair to ask people to remove their wedding bands. I also thought about possibly doing something with keys, using the theme of them having "the keys to each others hearts" but I wasn't sure what kind of thing would work.

I'd be very grateful for any ideas or helpof any kind :)

Thanks,
Jake

I've come up with three different tricks/routines for weddings (one of which was my own), but I want to keep them special to the couples I created them for. I'd really hate for one of those people to be at someone else's wedding and see "their" wedding trick (especially as it really was "their" trick).

Have you considered the Souvenir Linking LoverBands? http://www.world-of-magic.co.uk/Souveni ... i24274.asp

You can get an extra "top up" kit with some nice extras too: http://www.world-of-magic.co.uk/SLL_Top ... i24779.asp

If you want to come up with your own thing, I agree that you probably shouldn't mess around with their wedding rings, especially not doing anything that might make it shoot off to the other side of the room by accident. I wouldn't say it's wrong to do a trick with the wedding rings, but it has potential to cause upset, so I'd steer clear, unless you're sure it would be OK with everybody.

David Regal's new Regal Ring Chain looks quite good. While the method's fairly obvious (to us), I think it might be a suitable trick if the groom wore the chain and the bride's ring appeared on it. There's no real danger of the ring getting lost, and it could create quite a nice image of the groom carrying her ring close to his heart. I don't think the bride's wedding ring emerging from the magician's shirt is good at all. But again, this is only for use if you know the couple and can be pretty sure that they (and everyone else) will not be upset. Oh and you can get the groom to one side for a few minutes on possibly the busiest and most important day of his life...

Think very closely before going for that. You could always do the trick with your own ring, and spin a story about the bride it originally belonged to. You lose the impact of it being a borrowed ring, but dodge the bullet of making a newlywed give you her ring (is the Bingo thread still going?). You'd also have to deal with people thinking that the ring is a duplicate. Maybe you could do the trick twice, once using that method and then again the "real" way.

The "key to the heart" thing is quite nice, but to me that's more of a romance/Valentine sentiment. Weddings are romantic (or should be), but it's more about two people joining together, making the right choice of who to be with and finding the perfect match.

And those words were carefully chosen to give you some ideas!

I've had an idea that I've been working on for a while now for use at weddings and events that are similar in nature to these sorts of things. It too was based around the whole concept of love and destiny. I've written it up in my new pdf ebook which I'll be putting out on the internet soon for sale. If you like I can keep you posted and let you know when it'll be for sale. It's not going to be a big bank buster, only £10 but I think this paticular effect would suit your situation. It's nothing to do with cards and is instead using rings, or a ring.

Like I said, let me know via pm if you'd like more infomation.

Juxtapose - Paul Brook. It works for close up and stage. It WILL kill people. More of a mentalism effect than a magic trick.

Both impromptu very effective and an amazing giveaway. I have tried and tested many ideas and routines, but nothing works better for me than these.

I must agree that Scoop is ideal. Having now decided i am no longer retired from 'regular' magic this is something that i will use at weddings.I also used Juxtapose with great success and of course do not forget Twilight Angels.
