Ironically enough...

In a wonderful twist of irony, the chimney sweep I booked to sweep our chimney didn't turn up today.

Apparently the appointment was for 21st OCTOBER and not September. Well either I'm a terrible mind-reader or these here chimney sweeps are nowhere near as magical as I was led to believe.

You could have saved yourself a few quid and did it yourself. A neighbour of mine did it once. He covered all the furniture then climbed onto the roof with a borrowed brush and began pumping. His wife was downstairs in the sitting room, shouting up at him that nothing was happening. So he pumped harder. Eventually he gave up.

As he climbed down the ladder he noticed his neighbours house (not me, thankfully) was black. Soot everyplace.

On second thoughts, perhaps you could just sit by the window for another month and wait.

How strange. My chimney sweeps use pendulums and playing cards. :D
