Gypsy thread

Postby hds02115 » Sep 10th, '11, 23:46

Does anyone know of a published effect of the gypsy thread where a spectator breaks off the thread, then breaks it into pieces before you restore it or even they restore it? A kind of out of your hands version with more audiance participation?

I only ask because I've been working on this and wondered if anyone else has tackled it before.

Sounds very interesting. Not heard of anything like that.

I suppose you could do it by you breaking off the first strand to illustrate what length you want...

But I can't see that adding much to the effect really...

Eugene Burger performed a version for me at international magic once where I was breaking all the thread. It's not really a method advancement, just a presentational angle as many Gypsy Thread routines would allow for the spectator to break pieces off.

Hmm, so it sounds like it's not really been done. I've come up with a rough method for a hands off version of the gypsy thread. It allows the spectator to pull the thread from the spool, break it of, and then break it up into peices. It's not perfect but it works and with a little work could be great, fairly simple but adds that extra level to the routine. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic and have performed it for years, but it would be nice to perhaps be able to have a little audience participation. Anyway, I've not ever seen or read that before. Is this new thinking or just a re-hashed idea?

It's quite redundant if you then have to take the thread back off them...

I guess so, but what I've come up with is done quite openly on a table top and still in keeping with the at finger tips presentation of the original. It doesn't have the vibe of "he switched something" to it. I guess it's pretty hard to imagin and I'm not really looking for comments as it's barely been described, I only started this post a few weeks ago wondering if anyone has heard, seen or read anything like this before.
