A Little Help!

Postby JabJay » Oct 5th, '11, 01:40

Hello.

I hope everyone is well! Now, there is a move that has been driving me absolutely mad for months!!! I first saw Jerry Sadowitz use this move as a gag during a trick on the Roy Walton moment. It involved the 2 red aces, he asked the spectator to think of any card in the pack and it would be sandwinched between the two red aces. He then did what I 'think' was a turn over pass where he got one ace at the bottom of the pack and one ace on top and then told the spectator that indeed his card was between the two red aces. He then asked for the name of the card and completed the effect. All I really want to know is the name of the move or pass that was used to get into that set up. I think its a turn over pass of some sort. I don't want to rip of that schtick or gag but it looks like a good move for an effect/routine I am putting together.

Sorry if its an obvious answer as ever.

Thanks a lot.

James.

I don't know the routine, nor do I know the name of the move... but if it's a comedy angle you're going for you could simply start with the aces on top, and then after your spectator thinks of a card very slowly and openly place one on the bottom.

From the sound of it that bit isn't really supposed to be particularly magical, just funny.

Of course if you want to use that move for a different (less comedic) effect, then this advice can be disregarded.

Im sure ive seen Darwin Ortiz do this routine as well on 1 of his dvds, its only that 1 gag at the beginning so its not meant to be a funny routine as its a pretty stunning trick IMO.

Might be worth giving this thread a more descriptive title.

Simon Scott

If the spectator doesn't engage in the effect,
then the only thing left is the method.

It's called The Smiling Mule by Roy Walton and originally used the Turnover pass.

Myself as well as others have added the edition of after the gag, having the selected card appear face down between the two face up aces.

It adds a bit of drama rather than the aces and the named card appearing face up within thy face up deck which often needs the magician to point out what has happened.
