Sticky posts are ones that the MODs or regulars here deem to be important enough to be always on display. You can always see the post no matter how old it is. The stickies tend to have material that would benefit many people on the forum.

I often wondered the same. Some of the stickies contain useful information. Others don't.

In Ireland a sticky is a member of the Official IRA, so it is not a term I like.

This is totally off topic but I can't resist asking, why is an IRA member called a sticky? I tried a quick google search but didn't want to delve too deep into IRA sites

When the Offician IRA split from the Provisional IRA at the start of the troubles, both groups sold lillies at Easter to commemorate the Easter Rising of 1916 (and to raise funds for the terrorist campaign). The Officials sold stick-on lillies, while the Provisionals sold lillies on pins. So the Officials became the Stickies, and the Provisionals became the Pinnies. The Pinnies name did not stick, but the Stickies did stick. The Provisional IRA were more commonly known as the Provos. The stickies were a lot smaller than the provos, and killed less people, but they were still sick b******s. Hope that answers your question.

I'm not a member of the IRA but would like to contribute to one of the sticky threads. Is this allowed?

If you PM Mandrake, he'll advise accordingly.

Stickied posts can be added to in the usual way, being a Sticky just means they stay at the top of the ranking pile rather than being moved down the list as newer posts are added. If anyone has problems with posts/stickiees and so on, please let me know.
