Street Magic + IT?

Postby Danny Joseph » Oct 9th, '11, 01:08

Hey Guys,

I know people say one of the classic magician gimmicks is IT. However is it all it's made out to be when it comes to performing street magic?

I find IT breaks so easily that I wouldn't feel comfortable hoping it'll still be in 1 strand when I come to use it after 10 minutes walking about.

So is Thread more stage? Are there special procedures to ensure the thread doesn't break? or is something like the M5 just more practical? (which I have, btw)

The most important thing to learn about thread work is when not to do it. It's all down to the lighting really. I can happily walk around with a thread from my ear down my shirt front all night.

Stage thread is obv thicker and used to do more of your dancing cane style things. Or James' floating rose.

Although I'm not really sure what your actual question is?!

if you keep breaking it.. your not using it right.

Know the weight and lighting limitations, and stick to them. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I don't use thread any more, but when I did I found it was not difficult to use and reuse. It just takes a bit of getting used to, and a bit of care.

love thread work, every one plays around with it, but I find many do not actually use it in performance.

I don't know if this is what ur talking about but have u tried IET. You can make loops with it or just buy the loops pre-made. These work really well for street magic, you can carry them around all day without worrying about breakages or resets. Personally I would recommend eve thread, it's a bit tricky as u have to strip the thread into 3 smaller ones, but it's the strogests I've found. Or there's elastics, which comes in a nice single thread in a dispenser.
Hope this helps cheers
