Andy Nyman on TV

Postby Tomo » Oct 26th, '11, 18:10

Film: Severance
BBC3
10pm - 11:30pm

Following his terror-on-the-Tube-tale, Creep, British director Christopher Smith here goes above ground and delivers a skilful blend of comedy and horror. Pitched somewhere between TV's The Office and British horror Dog Soldiers, this follows a group of armaments firm employees on a team-building weekend in rural Hungary. Lost in the woods, it's not long before a talented ensemble cast (headed by Danny Dyer as a permanently stoned slacker) is caught up in something much more deadly than paintball games. Smith effectively switches between crowd-pleasing comedy and genuine suspense as he stages a series of gory deaths. Some might argue this is merely a disposable B-movie, but others will be won over by its sheer insouciance. After all, how many other slasher movies feature surface-to-air missiles?

Might have to check this out, even if I didn't get on with Deliverance...

Andy is very much the comic relief in this one. There's a scene with a bear trap that'll make you either wince or cough your lungs up laughing.

You know me, so I think we can both predict my response with some accuracy... ;)

Dead Set, also featuring Andy Nyman, is being shown in one sitting on E4 on the 30th October at 11.40pm

Worth it, just to watch him poop in a bucket and for a zombiefied Davina McCAll. :D

Apparently they could only get Davina for one day, so for the footage of her banging her head on the glass panel in the door they had to put a wig on a dummy and bang that on the door instead!

You've just given me an idea of what to watch on Halloween; haven't seen Dead Set in ages! Also recommended in the seasonal spirit (but without Nyman): Ghostwatch :)

Never seen dead set but have been meaning to, so maybe I'll give it a punt :)

It's the 20th anniversary of Ghostwatch next year. Apparently something is being organised...
