Signed Card to Bottle

£26.99 from Magicbox

Effect type: Card Magic

Value for money: erm........6.5

Ease of use: (1 easy-5 hard) 1

Review:
Ok, when i ordered this, i was expecting something really complicated, and an amazing gimmick. How wrong was I!

Now as i said this isnt that good on the price wise, as for my money i expected a bit more (wont say what came in the package as that will expose straight away), but, its an easy to master effect with many possibilities.

The outline of the effect is that a card is selected, signed and seen floating inside a sealed bottle of coke or sprite, the contents are poured out and the card is handed out for the speccy to keep, because it is there signed card!

As much as i think that it is a little bit steep on the price, its a great effect which will pay for itself within half an hour (on my fees that is) and will be the talk of the town.

Overall, i give this effect an 8 out of 10, as i think the effect is greaty, but the price is a bit steep, and you will eventually need refills.

ta ta for now!

Mark,

I got this effect recently and have played about with it but have not performed it in public.

Without revealing the secret, I've discovered that the card has to be glued together, otherwise it opens in the liquid and you can't get the bu**er out of the bottle.

Also realised that if you glue a shim of metal in the card you can easily lock it to the side of the bottle with a ??? and use the same ??? to lock it to the bottom of the cup later.

I've also thought of using a darker drink which the card would appear when the bottle is shaken but would possibly assist when the drink is poured into the cup later.

PM me if you want to know more.

Ive found the same, ive even glued the arrdvark into the card for extra security and to avoid using paperclips.

Im just wondering where to get refils from though, becuse its going to cost me a bomb me thinks, lol

Just reread Tenko's queery.

In response to getting it out of the bottle, i dont bother! By tipping out the liquid, if you keep the outside gimmick in the same place, and when using a bottle of coke, the gimmick will be hidden, and there will be no worries of exposure.

Tenko, do you have abyss? doesnt this effect readf soooooooooo similar to that!

Mark, is this the same thing as 'Impossible Card to Bottle'?

If so, I'm not sure it's really a '1' for difficulty, based on the review guidelines:

(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Judging from what's been said on this thread already, it doesn't exactly sound self-working, even if this one has a different method.

Hi

Im going by my own thoughts on ease of use really and i suppose its about a 2 or 3, thinking back.

Yes, this is the impossible card to bottle and it is practically self working, woth the exception of a card fold.

Thanks for the clarification, Mark. Obviously, every review is going to be subjective to a degree, but it's helpful to people to have some kind of objective benchmarks.

I'd put this effect as a 3 for difficulty, myself. Having said that, I never used it - CUPS strikes again.

Marked Card in bottle

Postby Allen Tipton » Aug 7th, '05, 15:29

:) I had toyed with the idea of buying this (though it was £45 from that dealer !) Then I thought of the mess and I hate soggy things & fingers at the end..as the note in bananna, or lemon or tin of treacle etc. And at someone's table of all places. Ugh.I've used Ron Gilbert's Card In The Bottle for 12 years. You can't have it marked, You don't get it out. it appears as and when you will and there's no refills. mark take note.

Hi.
I have posted my own review of this under the title "Impossible Card In Bottle by Gerald Kirchner".

Does anyone know where to get hold of the crucial gimmicks in different colours???

Allen,

I don't know Ron Gilbert's method but this one is up to date (I'm not saying Ron's isn't because I don't know it).

You get a speccy to pick and sign a card and then turn round and pick up an unopened bottle of Coke, Sprite, Dr Pepper or whatever you want and their card appears inside it before it is opened. You then tip the contents out after the speccy has opened it and they take their card from the cup you poured it into and its their signed card. You don't get your fingers wet, they do.

However, as I've said before, it takes some work to get it right to suit you, and I wouldn't say that you can work it straight out of the box. I've spent a couple of months playing with this and I'm still not entirely happy with it. I still can't make it entirely clean.

PM me if you want and I'll go through it with you and you might be able to help me clean it up.
