I willl send her an email at lunchtime.

I didn't get any contact details from the fella (Sam, was it?) but he says he would like to see us in that bar again. :)

Why specifically?

I don't think it's fair to offer lessons without some serious performance practice and plenty of years of dedication and knowedledge. Whilst everybody last night is great fun and performs well, it would a bit "the blind leading the blind."
I wrote down a book or two for him to look up and it would be great to see him again and perform some stuff etc, but offering lessons is a bit of a joke.

Yeah, I don't plan on offering lessons. I need them myself!

I would be disappointed if I paid for lessons and got me as a teacher. So for that reason...... I'm out!

At the end of the night, I performed my Sam the Bellhop-inspired routine, Samuel Diamond, for the people at the next table, and the girl Olivia who works "in events", as mentioned in this thread above, wanted more, but she suddenly became "the difficult spectator", so I had to kind of improvise...

She told me she's interviewed loads of magicians and that she "knows all the tricks". She grabbed the deck, chose a card, held it to her chest so it was impossible for me to see it, then shoved it in the deck and told me to find it. Is it even POSSIBLE to do that (assuming it's a regular deck and you haven't set it up with a stack or whatever)???

So, I grabbed two random cards and put them face down on the table, then showed them in turn. "Is that your card? What about that one?" I knew there was a one in 26 chance that I'd get the card (two cards out of 52). A long shot but worth a try. Both were wrong. I turned the two cards face-down.

I admitted I'd failed to find the card and said casually, "What was the card anyway?" She told me. I then sneaked the card out of the deck (right under her nose, during the off-beat) and switched it with one of the two cards that I'd dropped onto the table, the card on the left.

I flipped the card on the right face-up and said, "I knew this card was wrong." I then flipped over her card (which she assumed to be the other random card but which I'd switched for her chosen card) and said, "But I did have high hopes for this one!" Of course, this card had now (magically!) turned into her card.

She seemed amazed, I'm glad to say. I really didn't think I'd be able to do anything as she only seemed interested in messing things up (though she was good as gold during Samuel Diamond).

You could do it, Lenoir.

I used to do lessons. I had about ten clients over a period of some months, each paying £100 or so for four hours.

Oddly, back then (four years ago) I was actually quite terrible, yet only one punter requested a refund.

I'm pretty sure I mostly just demo'd loads of gimmicks and self-working effects. I feel almost guilty about it.

May I just suggest that any and all future meets involve prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce? :D

Three corporate walkarounds, a charity ball, two birthdays and a few nights in my friend's trendy bar.

No weddings yet (other than my sister's but that wasn't formal).

[EDIT] And almost every bloody night at the hotel! [/EDIT]
