Genii is a pretty good magazine, with a fair amount of card effects in it. Some of my pals have got some really good material from it. I personally prefer "Magic" magazine. Not really a lot to distinguish the two, I just prefer the layout and style.

If you can get hold of it, and thats a big if, Jerry Sadowitz produces a very high quality publication  called "The Crimp" I have got a few copies and although initial thoughts are "what on earth is this" It is nearly solely devoted to card effects albeit with a small amount of mentalism. And the effects within are awesome. They are not self working, and will require you to practise a lot, but I have had very strong reactions to anything I have got from "The Crimp"

Have a look on ebay if that is easiest as there are often editions for sale. The magazine also includes Jerrys robust humour. Not to everyones taste, but there you go.

So is the Crimp
Is it still produced??
Why is it so rare?
And how do you get a copy (apart from eBay)?
Who gets them?

I'm not sure that the Crimp is still in production, and if it is it is not on a regular basis.

There is an online card magic journal here, www.cogitations.net.

Not sure if it is still produced. It was never produced all that regular anyhow. People often sell older copies on ebay, and I know that Jerry sometimes sells copies himself through ebay.

I think its fairly inconsistent as Jerry handwrites it all, along with some very amusing illustrations and I think he wants to keep the material fresh and strong, rather than just produce it often but get weaker.

Next time I go into International Magic I will ask Jerry himself.

The link for the online card magazine looks interesting. Not too sure that I want to commit money to something before it is up and running though.

If anyone wants a good resource for some great card effects, I am currently working through "Cards on the table" by Jerry Sadowitz. It is available from Martin Breese, and has some great effects in it. I will be brave enough to do my first review when I have worked through it more. None of the stuff is in the slightest self working, but I find it very amusing to demo stuff for fellow magi, and they are baffled, because it is not part of any easy to master self working stuff etc. I might be a bit of a sadist but I really like working on a new effect for a while (sometimes a few months) This book will give you plenty of stuff to last you a while.

It's actually been running for just under 6 months now, and has had some really good contributions. Personally, I got alot of value out of it and for a $20 subsription for 6 months I'd say it was well worth it :) .

"Cards on The Table" is a great book but bare in mind that its one of those books which doesn't go into great detail on the mechanics of an effect and you'll need a solid understanding of card sleights to master the material. Having said that it is always a good challenge to attempt something beyond what you're capable of :) .
