Job interview

Postby JammyT » Nov 14th, '11, 17:33

Just found out I have a job interview on Thursday (bit short notice)

unfortunately it's not for the post of 'extremely well paid magician'

I would ask you all to wish me luck but after watching Derren Brown's Experiments is there any point?

At all times be totally sincere... if you can fake that you've got it made!

Maybe I could do some tricks for them

and after the interview warn them that I have powers so it might be in their best interest to just give me the job!

Good luck.

Just be prepared. Have answers ready for all of the likely questions and give examples of each strength without waffling.

If they ask you how you integrate into a new team say that you do magic. That gives them the opportunity to ask you to do something without you seeming to want to force magic upon them.

Then do a trick with a signed card or other memento that they can keep. It'll probably stay on their desk acting as a reminder of you.

Thanks guys

Look into my eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, the eyes, now sleep.

When you wake up you have already made your decision, I am the perfect man for the job....

... oh and you might want to reconsider that salary packet

Good luck pal

Seem to remember the best approach is to take a confident and positive outlook to most questions!

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

Good Luck Jammy!

Out of interests, do any amateurs/hobbyists put magic down on their CV?

Yes I do in the interests section. As someone who has interviewed a fair bit, put something down there you want to talk about, often with two candidates who interview well, the interests chat towards the end is the thing that shows the character of a person and is the differentiator.

Yep. It comes right after Juggling.
And I list both as a previous profession (though it was just an on the side bit at Uni really)

I think I got my last job based on being able to do magic; the chap that interviewed me brought it up and asked to see a trick.
I didn't even get asked back for a second interview, just straight got the job!

I list juggling too (though I am a very poor juggler), my career path is in a particularly dry subject so anything that is interesting to talk about helps move things along. If your interests are quirky but just this side of weird then it'll peek the interest of the poor jaded sod who has to plough through all those CVs. That said don't do what some people do and list things you know nothing about, there's always the likelyhood the interviewer knows a lot more about the subject than you do.

Just had my notice of termination letter today. I'm so happy!

Anyway, it's time to rejig the CV, so for an important vaguely linked question: Do I leave the Donkey Leading and Bouncy Castle Attendant job off the CV?
