a book about performing in restaurants?

Postby magicarp » Nov 15th, '11, 00:50

hello everybody,
so my mateys and aquaintences are getting pretty sick of me forcing magic on them every time we meet up and I was thinking maybe its time to try and get some work performing at a restaurant or something similar (whatever that may be), but its a pretty big step up in my eyes. Are there any books relating to this subject? I'm not looking for methods, more like how to go about getting a job, how much to charge, putting together a routine, introducing yourself, all that kind of malarky. Of course any thoughts or advice from you attractively knowledgable people would also be most welcome!

best regards,
Will

Magic Menu is very "US" focused. Not sure where you live, but there are huge differences between this market which is alive and well in the US, and the UK, (where it is IMHO very much the rarity). You will need to ensure you are being "market appropriate" with any selling efforts you make.
Good luck.

I'd first say that before you think about actually going into the working area of performing magic you seriously take an honest look at your skills and performances. After that a good little thing that might be what you're looking for is 'The secrets of resturant magic' by Eugene Burger. It's some lecture notes but is definatly worth taking a look at. Lots of useful infomation and things to get you thinking.

I can second this. It's a great book and the DVDs based on it are also superb.

Yes, from a business view the Magic Menu is very North America based. But there are still tricks (pun intended) and tips that will help in any market.
