In the hands false riffle shuffle

Postby Le Petit Bateleur » Nov 11th, '11, 08:56

Hi there,

I'm looking for a method to perform an in the hand false riffle shuffle, which would look the same as the in the hand shuffle, but retain the
deck in its original order. It would also be great if it required no stripping action or cut, as the standard slight does not use them.

Does such a beauty exist, and if so, could you point me in the right direction?

Thank you
LP.

Tarbell 1, page 255. Don't be fooled by the simplicity; I've seen a very distinguished magician use it at The Magic Circle, supporting the cards against his leg. It looked clumsy, but that was the impression he was trying to give.

I think there's a false in the hands riffle shuffle taught on 21 Magic by Sweden, I think it's Lennart Green's Real Green Shuffle.

Ben Earl has a few good ones on Past Midnight.

Theres, a side faro false shuffle, a variation on the Lennart Green one called the Grey Shuffle, and I think theres one more as well. They are not typically very easy moves to get down though.

I think Richard Osterlind does the one from Tarbell that was mentioned above.

I tend to go for a kind if modified zarrow that i worked out, in some way it is more convincing than the tabled version.

slip cut the deck and hold a packet in each hand with the back corner of the long edge wedged into the crotch between your pinky and ring finger gripping with your ring and middle fingers. Curl index finger over so that the knuckle is resting on the back of the cards then riffle with your thumbs. Then just do your standard zarrow move; you can do all the work with the bottom packet though, so the top packet stays at the same height.

hope that helps :)

Thank you all,

sorry it took me a while to get back to you.

I purchased the truffle shuffle and manfred shuffles from Dan and Dave. They look deceptive and worth the practice,
especially the TS as it seems less angle sensitive.

I like that it looks very much like an in the hands RS, bridging and springing the cards at the end.

Barry,

thanks for the reference to Tarbell. I should have known better and checked there first :) Reading through the description though,
I'm not sure how the two halves are brought together after the riffled corners are separated. Is it a case of mimicking the action
of the two halves being pushed together?

One more thing for all- Michael Vincent, in "The Classic Magic of MV" demonstrate an in the hand false riffle shuffle, which looks amazing. Unfortunately he doesn't go into the explanation and refers to Guy Hollingworth's "Drawing Room Deception".

Does anyone us that shuffle? It looks like the Holy Grail! :)))

Take care,

LP.

To answer the Question about the Guy Hollingworth false shuffle, it's good but like pretty much all of his stuff it requires the write person to perform it for it to be at it's best. As for a false in the hands riffle shuffle, I have one which is a veriation of the Grey Shuffle from Past Midnight but modified in a way that is better for me but also doesn't require an after cut to complete the move. Very deceptive. I've also got a false Faro shuffle based on a move of Lennart Green's (Not his Green Shuffle).

If these interest you drop me a message.

I've been shown both the Manfred and Truffle shuffles but although they're both interesting and good in certain ways, neither really would tick all the boxes for me to use. They do slightly have an air about them that they're being marketed for the sake of marketing.
