Every December issue, Writing Magazine prints a list of horrendous lines taken from books that were actually published during the year. I pick a few favourites to share with NaNo-ers. They're both cheering and encouraging. Have a look!

I wonder if the published authors have a forum where they laugh at failed author's laughing at them?

This is me: http://nanowrimo.org/en/participants/jacob-newton

The "writing buddies" system seems still to be down, but feel free to add me when it is restored.

The buddy system has been working. A number of other "fat ugly jealous losers" from Regretsy have seen fit to add me to their lists. Lord knows why.

Robbie, this line "With summer, evening was very long -- it lasted until twilight." made me laugh but may have been deliberate.
About 15 years ago I read a line that said "Autumn came early that year, but then, realising its mistake, it went away again."
That's far more obviously a joke, but it could be what that one was aiming for.

Always possible. It's always hard to tell somebody's intentions out of context.

My NaNo's off to a screeching halt so far. I've got a sinus infection and am on antibiotics that make me feel grotty (on top of the infection that's making me feel grotty). Woke up on 1 November with a migraine, and the antihistamine I take for migraines knocks me out.

So the first day of November was spent mostly staring blankly at the TV. Yesterday wasn't much better. Today is going to be spent mainly catching up on the work I didn't do the previous two days.

Poor you! I've had a sinus problem for the past six months, so not much writing here either. I am trying to make some more headway with a popular non-fiction essay I need to finish and have just started what I think will be a short story.

I intend having too many sweets, getting over excited, running up and down the aisle and then vomiting.

18,491 words and counting. Definitely recommend getting along to a write-in!

I decided to pull out of NaNo a week or so ago. I generally persevere, but I'm smart enough to know when I'm beaten. My health, Colin's health, enormous piles of work, and assorted other instances of life getting in the way are all conspiring to make this November generally rotten. I've written a few thousand words but won't bother to put them up.

And I have to admit that after putting in a long day of proofreading, my immediate desire is to find a leisure activity that doesn't involve staring at words.

Maybe next year I'll be organised enough to take the whole of November off and dedicate it to writing.

Sad to hear that Robbie - you and November don't seem to get on.

I'm nearly done, but it's going to be a race between the remaining plot and the finishing tape.

ive done NanoWriMo for the last few years.. and always managed to hit in my 50,000 words... its not too hard to write the required number of words a day... although they tend to be more 'brain dumps' than anything else..

I'm currently just shy 10,000 words short of the 50,000

sorry to hear youve had to pull out... hope things improve!
