I've received a job scam email via the email I set up to join the learnedpig.com
I haven't used that addy for anything else.

Before I contact them about this I was just wondering if anyone else has got one that is signed up for thelearnedpig?

Purports to come from rockcruitmanagement.com which has only been registered for one year which is a dead give-away. Looks like someone has been trawling through their db to harvest addies.

There is a "harvesting" program used by hackers that pull such information; basically the same method that allows them to phish you by sending what seems to be a genuine eMail from your bank, Paypal or whomever, asking that you re-validate your details.

Too, there has over the past year or so, been a similar problem with hackers stealing out your personal address book without you knowing it and then sending spam out that looks as if it came directly from you. I know of at least five or six individuals who've had more than a few headaches over that one, myself included.

Yes I got that one too, but they quoted a job rate in $'s which was a bit of a giveaway.

^^ A web spider or crawler shouldn't be able to find any addies that aren't openly displayed on a web page. Looks like they've been piggybacked and the db has been compromised. They've been hacked.

I'll get the fake site shut down and let thelearnedpig know if they aren't aware of it already

Needless to say. Don't fill in any details on the job site if you get an email from them. It's a phishing site.

It's also worth looking through the email headers (if possible) and try and find out who the spammer's ISP is, and report them to abuse@ - I've no idea how often ISPs take notice (or action) on those kind of emails, but it sure makes you feel better, especially if you get an automated thank you email back
