Progress with cards

Postby AA 14 » Nov 30th, '11, 18:03

Hi guys
As a newbie to magic I have spent most of this year learning the basics of card magic with a diversion into Bobos coin magic and a brief look at sponge magic.
I certainly feel i have learnt plenty of card skills {compared to a year ago when i knew nothing}, dont get me wrong, i am in no way suggesting i know everything, far from it!
But on a personal level i feel i have made progress and can perform a few tricks to my family and friends that i enjoy doing and they enjoy seeing. The tricks i have learnt are mainly classics such as Triumph, Twisting The Aces and Ambitious card routines, nothing startling for more experienced pros but I'm pleased i can now do them with confidence.

So which trick or routines have you guys been pleased to learn this year?

I stumbled across an old Al Baker routine this year that I absolutly love. It's a horse race prediction where by the spectator predicts the winner of the race, I've used ita few times now and it does down really well everytime.

Hello AA,

Some of my favourites,& one's which I can do with confidence are.

Diminishing Not Likely.
Lost & Found.
Fairy Tale Frogs.
Fractal Recall.
Synergy, followed by, Bizarre Prequel.
Wild Blank.
Spin Doctor.
The Royal Scam.
Palm Reader.

Like you, I began approx a year ago, & I'm very pleased with my progress.
I too am now learning one or two coin routines, just so I have other things to throw in with my card tricks.
At times it's been frustrating, but with a lot of practice, it's starting to look pretty good.
I may even have a few buisiness cards done over the coming months, even if it's just to do the odd trick with them.

Be Well.

CArl... :D

Two words: Biddle trick.

Has anybody ever had a bad reaction to this?

I think this is a great trick, especially when starting out, it really does amaze people and not difficult to learn once you understand it

Well after spending a good hour or so hunting through my Al Baker notes, I've just discovered that it's not Al Baker at all but Larry Becker, the effect's called Track Record and is in his World of Super Mentalism ebook. It's a lovely effect and can be adapted quite easily.

I'm not so much happy with any specific trick this year, but I'm happier with the overall package. I'm starting to feel more like I've got more developed routines, there all linking together better. I've been much better at focussing my efforts this year.
