Best (and worst) products of 2011

Postby TheStoner » Dec 11th, '11, 18:34

Is it too early for this yet?

BEST

iCandy DVD - Came out right at the start of the year but not beaten since, packed with great material
Any Card to Any Spec's Wallet - killer utility with a million uses
Trilby Connection DVDs - The best route into hypno

WORST

DB - "Confessions of a Conjuror" audiobook - surprisingly boring and read in a (deliberately?) stupid tone of voice to annoy listeners

Haven't really bought many physical tricks this year. But for published materials Paul's midnight side of the mind and pure Q&A have to be top of the list for favourite purchasers. The Mystic Menagerie has been superb all year long, some excellent ideas there. Then Alchemy Moon has provided some incredible new props. All in all a great year for bizarre magic. Can't say I've bought anything I've been disappointed with this year, been fairly sensible with purchasers.

Best:
icandy
Stand up monte
Handle with Carey

Worst:
The magic book of b*ll*cks - possibly not the worst but the most disappointing purchase of the year for me.

I haven't bought any tricks this year, I put together a mentalist act and thought that Pauls stuff that I used was great. If you want to learn tarot or Palmistry his books are excellent. They have been one of my best purchases this year.

Best: Mind Fluff. There's a genuine "warmth" to Becky's effects that I love to little mint balls ...and you get a free recipe for yummy lamb koftas!

Worst: I haven't seen anything genuinely bad this year, and it feels wrong to say worst when I mean least good.

I've used parts of pure Q&A in the two gigs I've actually managed to fit in over the last few months with great responses and midnight side I would like to try and integrate in. So they've both provided good working material which is earning their cost back. Books which make me money are winners in my mind. I am tempted with the pitch books, while I do little paid work I wouldn't need to sell many to make the money back and would greatly enhance my image by providing them.
