Christmas work do...being put on the spot!

Postby Alfred Borden » Dec 17th, '11, 12:32

Was our works Christmas meal on Thursday night, people had been asking me to do some stuff and I just gave the usual maybe response, around 35 of us went out for dinner and were sat across two tables

...then I was hit with this...all very amusing...and the haters that mock the usage of gimmicks will love it...

After meal, "hey Dean I've got a penny and a pound, Simon hasn't seen you do that trick where you put the penny and pound under the glass, and the pound disappears"

me - "not now mate, people don't wanna be bored by magic tonight"

TOO LATE, everyone from the other table had started coming over, "Dean's doing magic" - cue hustle bustle and being surrounded by everyone, brilliant. Bearing in mind I had nothing on me, not even a deck of cards or TT.

Then one of the girls says, "do that one you did the other day when I thought of the card and you knew which one it was, that was great!".

I explained that I didn't want the evening to turn into being about me and had nothing on me.

"its okay, I have a deck of cards in the van!" as someone darts out...I've already shown most Gemini Twins and Poker Players picnic so was thinking on my feet and as I got handed the deck of Waddingtons...as luck would have it that were pretty much *ahem* in a certain order shall we say... :D

"ok, one trick then lets do some drinking guys!" - "ok quick overhand shuffle" I then asked two of the girls to help me out and with a Joshua Jay presentation of Out of this World, one girl did half the deck, and the other girl the other half. Went down pretty well and my mate apologised for putting me on the spot with the penny and pound!

Morale to the story...never leave home without ID, Sven deck, CU, TT...

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

Always be prepared :-)

Some good truly impromptu magic is worth having under your belt. I'm sure we've all been caught out in the same way - but sounds like you made a good recovery!
