unwanted tipping when doing impromptu magic

Postby Discombobulator » Nov 24th, '11, 00:44

Are you embarrased by offers of money while doing an impromptu magic performance in say in a pub, or restaurant ?
Do you want to donate (some of) your performance fees to a charity?

I have set up a 'just giving' account at

http://www.justgiving.com/magic4charity

Simply ask the spectators to visit that link and make a donatation on there.

Any donations they make go directly to Worldvision, Mind, Help for Heroes, Cancer Research UK or Great Ormond Street Hospital (Their choice.)

Thanks,
Gordon

If I were tipping someone I would much rather they just took the money, and then stuck it in the ever-present "tin on the bar". I appreciate the point, but I'm not sure people will go to a website under this situation.

I carry a collecting tin with me which usually gets very heavy by the end of the night. Also more and more people don't carry cash.
They want to donate to the charity I support, but I dont take credit cards !
By giving out my card with the justgiving link they can make donations in their own time.

Damien O'Brien recently got a huge tip (about £400) from the president of Azerbaijan after performing for him. Unfortunately, it looks like nowhere in the UK can change it into £.

A Just Giving account looks like a great idea.

Just accept it and say thank you. This is not payment for what you did but a show of appreciation.
Thanks for the link to your site. Sometimes, When I am asked to give a benefit performance, I suggest that they sell tickets to outsiders and use the money to aid the benefit.
